The audience listening to Ren-Jou LiuAt the beginning of 2008 Victor Kung (General Secretary of Tainan Family EQ Association), and Ren-Jou and Grace Liu, attended an Initiatives of Change Global Consultation held in Asia Plateau, India. On returning home, they initiated a programme called Family, I Care - Bringing Love Home!
The programme consisted of four seminars (each lasted for two hours) and a concluding activity entitled Family Day held on 26 October. Below is a summary of the programme.
- Seminar 1, 27 July, Be your child’s spiritual guru, attended by 190;
- Seminar 2, 6 September, Husband and Wife: the first and foremost relationship, attended by 120;
- Seminar 3, 4 October, Be our own parent, recover love and respect for our parents, attended by 140;
- Seminar 4, 18 October, Harmony with our parents and in-laws, attended by 80;

Ren-Jou Liu was the keynote speaker at all five occasions. Altogether 23 people stood on the platform to share how they put into practice what they had learned which they felt would make a difference to their lives and families.
Guests from Hong Kong, Fung-Ming Chan and her husband Chun-Kau, joined the third Seminar, coinciding with a visit to the Lius in early October. The following was written by Chun-Kau on what he has found at the seminar.
Sharing - Ching-Che, son of Ren-Jou & Grace Liu, now in India attending Action for Life 4) "In early October, amazingly, Fung Ming and I were able to visit Grace and Ren-Jou for a long weekend. Arriving to their Tainan home on a late Friday night, Grace told us that Ren-Jou would be hosting a public seminar the next morning in a secondary school nearby and asked Fung Ming and myself whether we would be interested to join. Having no fixed plan for the trip but simply for the sake of a few days off from Hong Kong, we thought that it would be a good opportunity to learn more about what they do in Taiwan, so we gladly agreed and attended the seminar.
"Entitled Be our own parent – recover love and respect for our Parents, the seminar was the third of a four-series of programmes with the theme of Bringing Love Home – Family, I Care! From university students to housewives, the seminar drew together about 140 from the local community. After Ren-Jou’s introduction and short talk, three ladies, Victor and Hsiao-Yun shared their life stories in the seminar.
Family EQ trainers singing on the platform "The first lady, Chien-Chih, a former radio hostess and a mother of two, told her story of the love of her long deceased younger brother, and how this concealed love has turned into the power of caring for the suffering of cancer patients, and has helped to shape her destiny as a full time mother. The second lady, Yu-Yun,a retired teacher, shared how her family had supported her in the recovery from the sudden death of her young son, and in the process came to realize that there are many more in the world suffering similar pains, if not greater, who are also in dire need of help. And the third lady, Su-Feng, told her journey of an egocentric soul in search of her inner self and the normalized relationships with her father and her family. The life stories of these ladies are not co-incidence, but results from faithfully attending Ren-Jou’s family workshops for the past few years.
"A person who always wanted to be very rich, Victor told the audiences how he met IofC, how his values were challenged leading to a u-turn of the driving forces in life, and how he became fully committed to co-found with Ren-Jou Liu the Family EQ Association in serving the local needs. Hsiao-Yun, the Liu's daughter, being in India herself, recollected, via a DVD recording, her experiencing of insecurity deep down for her average performance in dancing, and how she had re-established her confidence in life by an encouraging letter from her father.
"So profound in the search of hearts and souls, sharing of the speakers managed to trigger some deep thoughts of the audiences on the parenting of themselves and their families. Among the few, a housewife reflected how her life had fallen apart when two of her family members passed away in a short period of time, and a university student confessed in tears how she could be a better child of her disabled father if she could strike a better balance of her time between her university life and her family.
"Having lost my father exactly a month ago on September 4, the seminar brought back the memories of my dad’s love for me and the family. Now that my dad is so far away from me, I cannot help but ask myself – how can I be a good parent myself? Having no idea of what the seminar was about before walking in to the lecture theatre, the purpose of our trip to Taiwan this time was accomplished when we walked out."
